Default Pinion Seal Leak Causes?

My rear pinion seal has started to leak onto the drive shaft. I am wondering if this is strictly a wear issue, (150,000 miles) or maybe caused by other issues. Perhaps a worn U Joint vibrating, or internal wear in the diff?
I am hearing some noise in the drive train.
What possible causes are there for this leak?
I want to make sure I get to the root of the problem, and find out how much it will cost to fix.

Thanks.

PS- I have the 9" Corporate axle, Limited Slip, 3.55, 2001 4x4

You know, I've only seen one truck in my life that didn't have a leaky pinion seal and that was My Dakota with 45k miles. Every truck I've owned with 100k+ had a leaky seal.
I'm not saying this is normal, because honestly I'm not sure.
But I am saying is extremely common.

What kind of noise are you hearing in the drive train? Describe them the best you can.

As for a possible u-joint problem, get under your truck and grab a hold of your driveshaft. Try to turn it, back and forth, and look for movement at the u-joints. If there is any movement or looseness in the joints, replace it. They should be 100% tight.

its a wear item. But check the u-joints for play anyway while you are there.
