diff fluid weight

how much did u end up spending on the oil i was looking at summit and the royal purple stuff was $18 a quart!!! that stuff is expensive, i want to do mine just dont really feel like spending that much, and did u have to do an additive the haynes manual says there is some additive if u use the mopar stuff

i went to orileys and it was 17 a qt. only used 1 of them though. no additive with RP. and i read on here that you dont really need to use the additive its not crucial.

Some do, some don't, depends on the axle it came with. All Dakotas come from the factory with 75W90, GL5 gear lube in the differential. The limited slip use a friction modifier additive. Mine has the corporate "8" open differential and I'm sure it took a little over 1 quart to fill when I put Mobil 1 synthetic in it. 8" fills to 1/4" below the plug and 9" fills to 3/8" below the plug and there is no gasket. Use RTV.

if you have an lsd and the fluid doesn't come with an additive built in you wanna use it something with the clutches and it will get hotter if its not added

so it only took u 1qt to fill it after draining? i thought it was supposed to hold like 4qts or something i think thats what my haynes manual says

We'll 1 quart is all he got out lol. Would have been a hell of a lot easier just to just buy the $4.00 gasket and pull the diff cover off...

yea it takes 2.2 i filled up 1.1. and just take off the cover. so much easier. i thought i would save myself time and mess by doing the siphon. WRONG.:ico n_doh:

were did u see 2.2 the haynes manual says 4.9 but thats prolly for the whole axle
