Default Front stabilizer bar replacment HELP!

I am getting a loud creaking noise from the front of my Dakota when I go over bumps. I needed new wheel bearings, so I assumed it was that. I got those replaced but the noise is still there when I shake the vehicle up and down. I crawled under there last night and put my hand on every part while pushing the front end up and down. (not an easy task) and found that it is coming from the front stabilizer bar. I called Advance and they didnt carry a repair kit, so I called Pep Boys and they ordered the whole bar the bushings etc for 29.99. My question is this : Is this hard to do? Does the vehicle need raised to get the bar off? Haynes manual says the vehicle has to be level in order to do this.? Thanks for anyone that can provide any info.
