how do i identify wat rear i have

Default how do i identify wat rear i have

i have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 4x4 i blew the rear in it and trying to find out wat rear i have so i can try 2 find one at the junk yard

i dont know how to decode any of the #s on the rear the tag under the hood says the front ratio is 3.55 in a dana 44

any help will be apprecitaed

in ur glove box there should be a tag that says whats in there

thanx i checka freinds truck his has the tag but mine dont any other ways i email dodge n they told me wats in my truck but i have to go to the junk yard to get a new rear n dont know how to find another 3.55 rear

u kno u have 3.55 in the front, then its a 4x4.
u have to have the same gear in the back, unless somone has put something else
in there. 4x4's need the same gears front and back.

Just out of curiosity I would like to see what would happen if you have different gears front and back and through it in 4wd lol. I think there would be some awful noises lol.


And to the OP, you DO realize this is the Dakota section? There is a seperate section for rams...

But I can almost garuntee you have a Chyrsler 9 1/4 rear, but since it's a ram I wouldn't say for certain. I don't know as much about rams as I do Dakotas.

i actually thought i was posting under ram sorry but i know the back has to be the same im just trying to find out how to find a 3.55 at the junk yard cause i blew mine and cant afford a new one
