Default 01 Dakota 5 speed

Hello all..Anyone have any ideas of what would cause a small thumping or clunking noise when hitting the brake . It happens both going slow or driving down the road. Can also feel a slight movement or quiver in the steering wheel when the noise occurs but the truck is not pulling to either side when applying the brake. Not sure but the noise seems to be coming somewhere toward the front. Thanks

Check the stabilizer bar end links. I am on my third set on my 2001. We don't exactly have the best roads around here. Check the shocks and ball joints too.

You may also want to take a look at your brake caliper pins. I recently Had an issue with mine where the previous owners mechanic had overtightened them and had to step up to an oversize pin and then overtightened it too. This seems to be a pretty common problem for our trucks since most home mechanics rebuild everything with Harley Specs instead of even considering a torque wrench. (there's a reason for torque specs)

i agree, check ur caliper pins. i just replaced my spindle because of that problem. my clunk began a month or two after a brake job( mine eats front pads). it lasted a short time, then BAM, both pins pulled out of the spindle at 75 mph. the only thing was the rim stopping the caliper from draging down the freeway. i had to crimp my rubber hose off with visegrips and ziptie my caliper in place to drive the 75 miles back home. i just got the spindle on friday, then found my banjo bolt was broke off as well. all is good now.

Problem solved...Had new tires and alignment job done few days ago. The two bolts on the a frame evidently were not tightened down and had loosened up causing the clunk. Tightened them down a full turn and no more clunk. Called the place that done the work.. they so sorry (very reputable in our area) and will realighn free. Oh well sith happens...
