Check engine light and power loss on hills
Ok this is a long winded and multi symptom issue I'm having but I'll try and make is as understandable as possible.
So a couple months ago the check engine light came on on my 1997 Dakota V6 4x4. I took it to autozone and had them check what the light was about and the read out came back misfire cylinder 5. So I bought all new plugs and wires and replaced them since I only bought it a year ago and had no idea when they were last changed. This did not make the light go off so I went a step further and replaced the cap and rotor which did not solve the check engine light either.
Also with the check engine light when I first start it up it comes on but once I start driving it and get the engine over 2500 RPM's two or three times the light goes off. It'll then stay off until I come to a complete stop and hit idle. Then once I take off again and repeat the steps above it goes back off again for whatever reason.
Also in the midst of all this I've noticed that I'm loosing quite a bit of power when I'm going up even the smallest hills and that when it shifts up the shift is rough and jerky.
I don't know enough about all this to know whether or not all these symptoms and issues are connected or completely separate problems. But from what I've read I'm beginning to believe that my catalytic converter might be a major part of the issue. I would appreciate any feedback or ideas anyone might have.

We are having the same problem .
We have replace the plug wires cap rotor and removed the cat but nothing has changed.
