engine swap... yes another thread
well i tried searching but basically never found what i was looking for. Currently i have a 94 ram in my driveway that has a crap chassis and body but the motor only has 140k km's! (90k miles). Also i did have a 98 dakota with a 3.9 and i really liked the truck. it was very nice but i sold it because it had 350k km's on it. So im thinking about picking up another 2nd gen dakota to do a motor swap (i know should of kept the first one but to late now). here are my questions: will both the auto/manual trans bolt up to the 318? will the trans/rear end stand up to the power of a slightly modded 318 (headers/intake/roller rockers)? will i have all the parts i need with the 94 ram for parts? i have never even come close to doing something like this before, would it be possible for me to do it? thanks!
Somebody correct me if im wrong but IF you have a 46RE trans in your new dakota you should be able to bolt right up and not be effected by your mods. If you have never done this before you should have the help of somebody pretty mechanically inclined if your not so much. It would just be better for you (less time too and cheaper incase you need parts) to find a dakota with a 318 or a 360 which isnt to hard to find.
You could take the trans out with the engine on the ram and put that in the dakota and be good to perhaps.
