Default Recently rebuilt tranny....major drop in mpg????

Ok so I just had the transmission rebuilt in my 03 quad cab 5.9 and my current gas mileage is ridiculous.....8 mpg. Any ideas? Does the new tranny just need to break in or should I dig deeper?

does the trans seem to be acting normal? are the rpm's at highway speeds correct? did you replace the torque converter when you had it rebuilt?
