Fuel Sensor Question
A friend of mine has a 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab V-8 4.7 liter and says he was told he needed a fuel pump sensor? I figured I would ask you 2nd gen drivers this since I'm a 1st gen owner. Is this sensor on the inside or the outside of the tank? He's not very mechanically inclined and knows little about cars. And is worried his truck will die and leave him stranded as he moves back to WA. I'm trying to save him money by talking him thru this fix so he can save money for his move. He's in Texas and I'm in Az and can't physically look at his truck. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I never heard of a fuel pump sensor. All the electronics for the fuel pump are part of the fuel pump assembly itself. Maybe he needs a fuel level sending unit, which is a part of the fuel pump assembly. If so, that can be replaced separately from the pump but if I were R&R'ing the pump for that I would just go ahead and replace the whole fuel pump assembly.
Sounds like someone either does not know what they are talking about, or they are trying to rip your friend off. Or both.

That's what I was thinking. I looked at pics online and the only thing I see on the pump is the pump, level and the pressure regulator on top. I think someone is trying to rip him off too. They want $600 to do the job and he can get the pump for $200 at Autozone and do it himself with a few buddies and a 12 pack of beer.
