At a Complete Loss... Power Distribution Center Content
Hi all.
I've been really struggling with trying to obtain a new power distribution center for my 1998 Dakota SLT. After numerous conversations with local dealers we seem to have narrowed it down to two part numbers: 56021617 and 57021615. I have no idea where to look for ANY of these. I've been to multiple salvage yards and can't find anything that matches exactly, but I don't know how far it carries over between models and want to get the most correct one possible. Google returns nothing when searching these numbers. I was hoping to just get a new unit and be able to run the harness to the dash and headlights, connect the engine harness, and be good to go. It's looking like that isn't going to happen. Do any of you know what the deal is with these parts (I know they're discontinued but why can I find NO record of them ANYWHERE online by part number?!)?
Any of you have any ideas/have run into a similar issue? I'm totally at a loss. Just FYI the original one is NOT in the truck and the one that is is from a Durango and the harness is totally FUBAR due to careless splicing (the worst rat's nest I've ever seen!)
Thanks guys.

You could just fix all the splicing and do it right.
As for the part numbers, just keep looking. I'm not sure where you could find one in the right vin code, but the best bet is to just keep looking. Idk what else to tell ya.

Seeing as how the current PDC unit is not correct to the truck, fixing the splicing would be a nightmare. Wiring colors do not seem to match up and it's just a ridiculous mess. Doing it right would be to get a new unit WITHOUT any splicing at all - it'd just be directly plug-and-play.
I have made some headway, however. I realized that the part numbers I had been given lacked the -AP suffix - so the part numbers are actually 56021615-AP and 57021615-AP. Searching these numbers on DodgeParts.com and some other websites has come back with a "Wiring Headlamp to D" part. I found an eBay auction for a wiring harness (most people refer to the part as that, in the service manual it refers to that unit as the entire PDC, so I did have some terminology confused) with a similar part number and sure enough, it comes back with that same description "Wiring Headlamp to D".
I'm sure someone here has the same truck - it is a 1998 Dakota SLT with the 3.9L V6 automatic. I'm not sure about the trim options (or it if matters) but this one has the Infinity speaker upgrade, fog lights, has back seats (but no doors), and it seems to have an extended bed but I can't be sure. I don't know much about the trim levels that were available for these but if someone has a truck with these options, could they have a look-see for the part number on the PDC? I'd like to make sure I have the correct one.
Thanks guys.
