Default Yet another problem

driving down the road today, a/c was running just fine, and all of a sudden it stopped working. I checked all the fuses and relay's and everything checks out good, the compressor is still kicking on and off as it should. What does that leave, the blower motor? I have only had the truck for 3 weeks now and I am already tired of the problems!

Does the heater and defroster work at all? If so it might be the blower motor resistor is bad and the AC is OK but the fan is not moving any air through the vents. If the blower motor resistor is bad a new one should cost less than 20 bucks at the Dodge dealer and it should not take more than 10 or 15 minutes to replace it. I did mine in the parking lot at the dealer where I got my new resistor. Blower motor resistor failure is a very common problem on our Dakota's.

Good call! I just got back in from checking it and it was the resistor AND the wiring pigtail. So now I have to rewire it and I will be without air for a few days. The blower fan didnt work on any setting, but I did take it out and test it and it still works great.

Ypu should be able to get the pigtail from a NAPA, Advanced Auto, Bumper to Bumper, ect. Where ever you get the resistor. Make sure you solder the connections and use heat shrink to cover it. Stay away from crimp connectors.

For the new resistor it is best to get the direct replacement part from the Dodge dealer, Dodge recently did a redesign on the resistor pack using much better quality and more reliable heavy duty parts. You will see when you compare the old resistor pack to the new one. Dodge sold all their old resistor packs to Napa, and the resistor packs you can get at Napa and other parts stores are NOS and not as good of a part. Dealer part should cost less than $20.00.

There is a replacement wire harness plug available at the dealer, PN# 5017124-AB. It is expensive, I hear they cost around $65.00. If the parts stores don't have it, maybe you could cut the plug and wire harness out of a truck from a junk yard cheaper.

I just got back from the dodge dealer, the resistor was $12.85 plus tax, the connector for it on the other hand was $78.99 plus tax, and it was gonna be 4 days before I could get it! So, I went to the local junk yard, picked up a new pigtail for $10 lol....hopefully I will have the air working soon, as it is getting HOT outside!!
