Blower resistor
Grats! Fixes are good.
Just an update for anyone who follows this thread later:
I replaced the blower motor and the pigtail (plug) for the resistor. I had lost the high speed on the fan, and assumed that was because of the fan switch.
If you have problems with the resistor (specifically, it corrodes and melts the plug) the problem is almost certainly the brushes in the blower motor. If you lose High Speed on the fan, its highly possible that this is the same cause.
If you replace the resistor (and the plug is not badly melted - good luck with that) figure that you may as well replace the blower. It's what burned up the plug to begin with. You may also find, as I did, that your fan speeds came back without spending the $150 (or $250 depending on which switch) on a new heater fan switch. Also recharged the A/C system and can now keep meat in the truck.
