bpark - I do not believe that is a factory amp. I have never seen a factory amp that has selectable cross-overs on the amp, nor unused low-level inputs...

OK, yes it is inside the passenger kick panel. I verified it's working by unplugging it and trying to listen to the radio. Something doesn't make sense though. The head unit is wired for it's internal amplifier out and it's going to this amp. Wouldn't that blow the amp? Last time I checked, cascading amplifiers is not a good idea.

Nah - you can use the speaker leads from a head-unit as input wires to an amp no problem. Those are high-level inputs on an amp. There is likely a gain control of some sort wired in to get the stereo to sound correctly, otherwise you end up with all sorts of weird distortion and other assorted badness.

I also noticed (which is what started me on this hunt), that if I turn off the head unit amp, I have no sound. This would indicate to be that the Infinity amp isn't amplifying at all, just acting as a pass-thru. I have looked at the wiring diagram for the head unit and there is no gain control for external devices. Any ideas?

like an artemarket amp, mine has a turn on lead, a remote wire. if you dont hook it up the factory amp will not come on.

The head unit is a JVC KD-HDR50. One of the menu features is AMP GAIN. Low-if your speakers can't handle 50W, High-if they can, Off-Turns off internal amplifier. As for the remote on from the HU, yes it is attached to the Infinity amp.
