Default Ram guy trying to help a buddy out.

Hey guys, was wondering if I could get some opinions on a few engine codes on my buddy's new Dakota he just bought.

It's a 98 with the 5.2, automatic, 202k on it.
Codes coming up are:
P0463 - Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean (Bank 1)
P0201 - Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 1
P0202 - Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 2
P0204 - Injector Circuit Malfunction - Cylinder 4

Just wondering what you guys think, maybe an idea of where to start. The fuel gauge is shot, so I'm leaning towards fuel pump. Seems to run decent, doesn't sputter often and idles well. Smokes black pretty good too. In the higher rpms it'll rev, but doesn't really go anywhere. Nowhere near the power my 5.2 Ram had when it was stock. Any advice/direction is greatly appreciated. TIA.

man, that's a lot of codes.
the 463 is probably a bad sending unit in the oh-so-convenient fuel tank.
171 lean is probably a consequence of bad injectors 1-2-4.

i'd start by doing an ohms test on injectors 1-2-4. if they pass, then remove them and swap into other positions, clear the codes and see if the codes move to follow those 3 injectors. if they do, then i'd send them out for clean/rebuild/flow test, or just buy new injectors. i'd guess the previous owner did something creative and screwed them up.

black smoke and lean 171 at the same time is a concern. any idea if those are the stock injectors or not.

I'd put money down that they're stock, but never hurts to check. I'll do some swapping and reset then see if it follows. Hopefully it'll be simple as just replacing them. Knock on wood..
