No, the new speed sensors didn't do anything. They seemed to have sorted it for about 200 miles before reverting to doing it again! I had a look at the conectors, as I thought the act of removing/replacing the sensors might have caused the tempory improvement but they seemed ok to me. They clicked on and off securley but weren't that tight, but there's no easy way to crimp them to make them tighter.

I've got a new TPS coming at the end of the month (who's reading I've found to be out of spec), so I'm hopnig that will cure it. Will let you know.

Default Update!

This weekend I fitted a new TPS and IACV. As I fitted both at the same time, I can't say which one or both cured ALL the problems!

As soon as I started it, I noticed a far more even idle. It normally shoots up to at least 1500rpm before settling to around 800rpm (when cold). It now just goes to about 1100rpm (from cold) and then settles to 700 and finallay down to about 600 when warm. It also had an irratic idle when warm. Normally when coming to a stop it would sometimes rev up for no apparent reason. Hasn't happend since new IACV.

The main problem was the O/D lock-up clutch constantly unengaging then re-engaging when at cruising speeds. Admittley I've only had one, short drive at free-way speeds but there wasn't any sign of the problem.

There was definitely a change in the behaviour of the gearbox (for the better), it felt like it would hold onto Locked O/D for longer on inclines before shifting down but if to put your foot down, it was more likely to shift lower and harder. As an example, before the new TPS, if I floored it from 70mph it would only go down one gear, which seemed ok but now it will shift down two gears from 70mph and REALLY go for it! Whole car feels more responcive.

Lets hope this is the final solution to this drawn out problem. I hope I'm not posting this too early as the speed sensors seemed to cure the problem but only for 200 miles!
