Default Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield

Hey guys, im going to get some new gibson shorty headers thrown in my truck because the stock ones have a leak in them. My question is about the heatshields surrounding the headers. I have been told that these can cause exceptional wear to the headers because they hold in too much of the heat.

Can i take them off or cut some slits in them to provide better airflow? or will the extra heat being emitted cause damage to the other parts around the headers?

Thanks for your time!

Take them off all together... you don't need them, both my trucks ran fine without them. If the headers are not already ceramic coated or heat treated, i suggest getting them done. Lower engine bay temps and better velocity.

Ok cool, if a 5.9 can run without the shields just fine the 4.7 can do it no prob.
