Default 4.7 engine swap??

I found a 2001 Dakota w/ a 4.7 but the engine is no longer with the truck. I have a 1981 5.2L [318cu.in.] Has anyone ever heard of this engine swap before? A 318 for the 4.7? I would most likely have to remove a lot of the enigne electronics and go with an older fashion electronic ingnition. Or how expensive is getting a new [or used] 4.7 and what kinda price is that going to run?

Don't try to swap a 318 for a 4.7, it will be a headache for you I think. You can look around for a used 4.7, I have gotten 2 now for around $1000 each, so they are out there. If it is a 32 tooth engine you can always buy a new tone ring for it and make it work with the 2001.

just another thought for you, here in wisconsin the emission testing makes it impossible to pass if you put an older engine in a newer vehicle. not sure where you live or your emissin laws.
