Vacum hose ???? Not sure what for??
I had a hose crack and break, but not sure what it is for??
The black 1/4" rubber hose (non reinforced) starts from up on the drivers side of the throttle body comes down to a "T" fitting that has a valve with a green threaded cap. From the other side of the "T", the black rubber hose runs to a "I think" would be a electric solenoid that is mounted between the battery, and the fender wall. From the solenoid a second rubber hose runs toward the back firewall and switched to a hard black plastic hose and disappears downward in behind the engine.
Any idea what this system would be, the hose cracked from age, and had come apart.
Thanks.

It's for the evaporative emissions system. The green-capped fitting is the test port which is for injecting smoke into the evap system to find leaks or cracked hoses when the CEL is on. The hose running back to the firewall and behind the engine leads back to the charcoal canister near the gas tank. The canister stores the excess emissions and gas vapors. The solenoid is the purge solenoid. Every so often the PCM will command the purge solenoid to empty the vaoprs in the charcoal canister back into the crank case via the hose going up to the throttle body.
There is also an evaporative emissions system leak detection pump mounted to the bottom of the battery tray. Every so often the PCM commands that pump to test the evap system for leaks. If any leaks are found (like the cracked hose you have) the PCM will turn on the CEL, usually it will set one of the P04xx codes. It will also set a CEL if there are any leaks detected in the gas cap seal.
If you have a cracked emissions hose, it is a good idea to go ahead and replace all the emissions hoses under the hood and check the rubber hose fittings under the truck back at the evap canister too. Dakota's are known for the rubber hoses to crack and split, and set the CEL. I did the hoses under the hood on my own truck with 7 feet of fuel line from Advance Auto Parts. Advance also sells the little right angle hose connectors that connect the purge solenoid to the emissions hoses. I also had to replace my leak detection pump to get rid of a P0441 code, but my pump had been damaged in a wreck back in March.
