Another Tranny Problem
My bad, didn't know that. Although i was told it's in name only, 5th gear is just 1st and 4th applied at the same time?
I dunno. I do know when I bought the truck brand new in 2001 that it had a 4 speed. Plus the funky dual 2nd gear. It is not a 5 speed, I'm sure of that.
But that's really not germaine to the clutch lockup issue. Can someone explain how the clutch works and what engages it so maybe I can figure out where the most likely issue is at.

Can you get a code? I would say it is your 4th gear slipping. (code p0734) Try taking it for a drive but keep it in 3rd. My guess is 4th but could be slipping in 3rd (code p0733) Either code will mean time for a rebuild.

The Driveline Management Computer or w/e dodge calls it controls the transmission shift timings (again, for the 545..not sure on the 45). The lockupo solenoid is just that, a solenoid. So it's either locked up, or it's not.
from what i have read and been told, the 545 (starting on 2003) has an onboard pcm and the 45 is separate unit. the tc lockup solinoid is still the same on both. my tech said if the tps didnt solve the issue and the solinoid is working(it either works or it doesn't) the pcm could be going(doubtfull) and or speed sensors crapping out on you. worst case problem: he said the tc just could be bad as well as the pump
I'll do more testing, but it is not slipping from the testing I've done. And it is not going in and out of OD. Pretty solidly narrowed to the luckup clutch going in and out, and really going out (disengaging) to easily. I used to watch it at different speeds over the years for the fun of it and I know pretty well at what speed and throttle position it will kick in and out. That's changed int he 40-60mph, most obvious in the 40-50mph actually.
Is the solenoid easy to get to? I'll take a look at my Haynes manual. I really hate taking to the dealer, they are such crooks for part prices. Everything is always 3x whatever the price is in the aftermarket. And that is for the same oem part.
