Default Cost For Repairs?

My truck has about 187,000 miles on it and I really like a lot of the features (4 wheel disc brakes, auto lights off, etc....) I was wondering what has it cost for others to replace the 3 main major when they broke down.

How much was the cost (actually part, labor, and then both together) to fix:

Engine

Transmission

Rear End

I have the 2WD V6 (maybe think about upgrading to small V8). I am just trying to figure out the cost of this things so I can start to put the money back so when they start to break down.

As far as the transmission, if it's an auto, you're looking between 12-1500 dollars.

Since you're an 03 I'm guessing you have a 3.7 v6? If you're looking for a v8, a 4.7 will swap in pretty easily since the 3.7 is basically the same thing sans 2 cylinders.

Since you have a 2wd truck, if and when you need to replace the rearend, you are not limited to gear ratio's, such as I am with having a 4x4. A junkyard rearend in my area goes for around $250-$400 depending upon gear ratio, if it has a limited slip in it, and mileage. The transmission your looking at between $1200-$1800 depending upon your area, and for the motor, I have a 3.9 in my 03' and have found a few used in the $800-$900 range.

Although I've never done it or really seen anyone on here do it, I don't think it could be all that hard as far as swaps go. Like i stated before, they are basically the same engine, so the mounts and trans should be direct bolt ins. You would most likely just need the PCM and harness along with the 4.7 so everything works correctly. Especially seeing there are 2 extra injectors, so the harness would be a little different.

But I don't really see there being any big boundries to speak of. With any swap you will encounter things you didn't expect but that will happen in every swap. It's just how these things work out.

One thing I would look into though, is swapping in a newer 4.7. The H.O. version which went in a lot of newer GC's, 3rd gen dakotas, and rams. It made 302hp and 329 ft/lbs of torque. You're talking almost 70hp more and 30 ft/lbs. of torque more.
