Okay this has happened to me too. I broke 3 breaker bars with a 5 ft cheater bar. My impact didn't do anything. I drove to 3 tire shops and none could get it with their larger impacts.

Last place was a 18 wheeler tire shop. They used their jack hammer size impact and that knocked it off easy, and they did it for free. I just tighten it up just enough so I could drive back home.

Nice people at that shop. It's always nice when you meet down to earth reasonable people. Also, good for you for being outgoing enough to even inquire.

Ya they were nice, all the shops I went to too. I was willing to pay too. The 3 tire shops said Oh yea we can do that no problem. They couldn't believe they couldn't.

The last shop was so shocked at the request that a lot of them came out just to watch.

Wow - What a great idea! - I'll see if I can find one local so I can start out there! It must be rusted in place or something - I just want to change the darn $12 CV boot.

I've got it taped up with gurilla tape at the moment! just to hold in some grease. I don't want to buy a new axel you know.

your biggest issue with the impact is that every thing is shacking put the rotor and caliper back on and get the wife to put her foot on the brake. i used a 3/4 gun. it came apart OK but if you going the wheel bearing get ready to beat your truck, like it has never bin beat before the wheel bearing was very hard to get off the knuckle. you can rent them go find your nearest united rentals they should have a big gun you can rent with a socket i thought it was a 30mm deep. good luck

Thanks - I found a guy with a 1" gun. I am buying a trailer he made out of a 1st get dakota today & he said he would give it a try this morning.

I'll keep you guys in the loop.

Update - So I swing by this guys shop this morning to buy a trailer (will be another thread ) that he just built out of a dodge dakota! So after the money exchages hands I mention again about the axel nut.

He pulls out the impact wrench & I stand on the brake. Nothing - didn't even budge.

Then he pulls out the big gun! had to run a 1" hose to run the 1" gun he says. 3 seconds later the nut comes off clean. Bang - done. The guy spins it back on by hand & puts the pin back in.

So tomorrow - after church - I will be trying to replace the grease boot again. This time I know I can get this thing off.

Now I just need to not screw up the crimp!

I was able to successfully change out the CV boot today!

Thanks for all the help on this one - I really hadn't thought of having a truck place do the nut. It really worked.
