99 dakota 318 idling issues

Default 99 dakota 318 idling issues

while in park idle will go up and down from idle up about 500 to 800 rpms back down to idle
check engine light does come on, but i first noticed this while on the highway rpm's would go up and down. thanks

Could be tps. When the one in our jeep was going if you were doing a steady speed it would cut out then rpms would come back up and cel would come on. There is a easy way to test it if you have a meter

this might change your thoughts or confirm them. when engine is cold if i just start up and go the truck will buck , sputer and kinda back fire for about 1 mile then runs good, except for the idle.. thanks

and of course don't forget to check/replace that crankshaft position sensor....
