Default E3 Spark Plugs

I am getting ready to do a tune up on my Dakota, 99 4x4 with the 5.2, and I am trying to see if there is anything to the hype on these plugs. Has anyone on the forum used them? If so did they perform as advertised, more power and mpg? Or is it yet another too good to be true product?

The magnum (3.9, 5.2, 5.9) motors like classic copper-core plugs the best. Something about the platinums just doesn't agree with the engine design.

I'm running champion platinum 3 plugs (I can't remember the exact name). They are great. I got 18.8 mpg on my last tank (driving like an old lady) but mine is the 4.7 & it likes these.

Personally I'm a fan of platinum plugs just because they last so long. Over 100k miles is the normal life. Not that you can't do that to other plugs, but the gaps start to grow after a while changing the combustion.

4.7 is a COMPLETELY different animal from the magnums. You can run plats, whatever you want in the 4.7, it's a very newer (2000ish) design compared to the 3.9/5.2/5.9 magnums, which are basically the 315 and 360 mopar blocks from the 60's and 70's.

So are you saying my 3.7L isn't a magnum motor either? The air intake assembly was badged with "3.7L magnum"

pretty much. Dodge uses the "magnum" name universally, but the true magnums were the 318 and 360 old-school blocks. See: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/47.html

Nope it's a 'powertech' or atleast that is what it was called when it first came out. Then they changed it back to Magnum.
