Default Something causing relays to fail?

Hi, I was having trouble with starting my 2000 quad cab. It turned out if I swapped the fuel pump relay with the trailer relay it started fine. But this only worked for 10-15 minutes. After that the relays got hot and would only worked if I swapped them around again.

Is there anything I can check that would be causing these guys to fail?

Relays don't normally fail on their own, in fact they hardly ever fail at all unless they get wet or damaged in some way. Under normal operation relays do not generate heat. If the relays are getting hot then whatever circuit they are integrated into is drawing too much current or has some other problem. Since this is the fuel pump you are having trouble with, it would be good to check it out asap.

Thanks for the reply. I just replaced the fuel pump, but it seemed that both the ASD and the fuel pump relay were hot. maybe that's why my old fuel pump went...
