Question What is it?

On the rear of the butterfly housing on my '97 Dakota sport, 5.2L, there is an electrical hookup on a "sensor", for the lack of a better word, which has a plunger inside it. Looks like a 4 wire hookup. What is this? It was very carboned up on the plunger. Can this contribute to low mpg? I can't find the MAF sensor either. I found the MAP sensor and the electric choke. Any help is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

It's the IAC, it controls the idle speed, shouldn't affect MPG.

There is no MAF sensor. Electric choke? You mean throttle position sensor?

Thanks, I cleaned the IAC last night, it was covered with carbon. So that is the throttle positioning sensor, just a quick guess that it was an electric choke. Is there anything special about changing the TPS? It seemed spring loaded, I did not completely remove it. I don't know much about all the sensors, etc. More old school.

Thanks for the help.
