Default SHE'S BAAAAAAAAACK...Really Need Help with New Exhaust

Hi,

I need some help with a new exhaust system. '01 Dakota QC, 3.9L, v6. I know I need a new CAT because it's rattling pretty bad. I've read the posts regarding this over and over but I still don't know which CAT to buy. When I go online to look, I don't even know what measurements I need or which one is better than the other.

Another question I have is, "If I replace the CAT, should I replace the rusty old muffler and all the pipes too"? If I replace the muffler, what's a good one for this truck? I don't want one that's loud being a female......

Any help with what to buy and where will be greatly appreciated!! My brother-in-law is going to install it but I always ask you guys which parts to buy first because I believe you're the experts!!

Thank you for any info/help on which way to go here and where and what type of parts to buy.

THANKS!!!!

most people go with a magnaflow hiflow cat you should have 2.5 inch piping. and for a muffler flowmaster, magnaflow, dynomax, really anything will work. just depends how loud you want it. if the pipes are in good shape you dont need to replace them.

def magnaflow cat...stock exhaust is 2.5" so a magnaflow cat without any O2 holes and that is big enough for your motor will be fine you should be able to find a part number for that somewhere online or magnaflow's site...muffler wise i suggest the hooker aerochamber and while its kind of loud its not obnoxious like a 40 series flowmaster would be plus it flows good

i have the flowmaster 40 and it's pretty loud. if you still wanted a flowmaster they make a quieter 50 series for suvs. ive always thought of this as the soccer mom of mufflers.

magnaflow or spintech, once moneys right ill get a spintech cat, just something different from the typical magnaflow. the FM 70 is their quietest muffler. things like 2 feet long.

THANKS guys, I more than appreciate the info you've given me!!! I tried to go the "post" route but couldn't get the answers I needed regarding my exhaust. Being a female makes it a little more difficult to understand the lingo but I am learning. I always try to search out what I'm looking for and, if I can't find an answer, I post my question for the "experts" to answer. It's funny because I won't ask people I know, I'll only ask on this forum. I trust the information here!!! Since my husband died I want to be absolutely sure I take good care of his truck for him and I thank you guys for helping me to do this!!! It means alot to me!!!
