Who Can Actually Read P0700 Codes?
ok. 07 QC 4.7 v8 auto threw a P0700. When it threw it went to limp mode on one occasion so far. I see that really it just points to the TCM. Its sounds like the Autozone scanners cannot read the Dodge TCM is this true? Is the only one that can truly give me this code the dealer?
Its my only vehicle right now and dont want to drive too much till I get this figured out. Ive seen some P0700 codes be a selnoid for 200 and some end up with a spankin new tranny. Shes not in limp mode all the time but it did go to limp mode twice.
Dont want to waste time going to autozone if I only can be read by dealer. Thanks!

P0700 is a generic code set by the Transmission Control Module. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light by itself, so it sends a message to the PCM to set a P0700 code and trigger the CEL to let you know there is a problem in the transmission.
Either the dealer or a transmission shop/garage that has the right scanner to communicate with the Mopar TCM has to diagnose it and tell you exactly what is wrong with the transmission. Autozone scanners will only be able to read the codes from the PCM, they can't get into a TCM.

I don't think the hand-held scanners can communicate with a TCM, but maybe some of them can. I don't own a scanner myself. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask at Autozone or Advance before taking the truck in to the dealer.
