Default Deisel Dakota

Hey guys

I have 2004 dakota 4x4, I have seen some guys online with diesel dakota conversions,
I am seriously looking into converting mine, putting in a cummins BT4. Only question I have is what type of transmission would be good to use to mate it with?
Preferably standard tansmission.

Thanks guys.

Nv4500 I think Should bolt up to it I know they came with the 6bt cummins. Not sure if this still applys but with the 6bt you need HD axles along with frame strengthen I would asume you would need to do the same. I've never really looked into doing a cummins swap before I would do that much work I would just get a ram with a cummins. My area you can find find a 98-01 ext cab 2500 cummins 4x4 with about 150k-180k for 5,500-7,000.

Thumbs up Swap...

Don't want to steal viewers from this site but if you want the word on this and any other 4bt swap go to www.4btswaps.com - the forum has all you'll ever need to know, as well as some extremely knowledgeable guys to cover things that haven't been mentioned yet. They've been a help to me and I've not even started my swap.
General consensus is that unless you're going for a performance, i.e. drag race or heavy towing machine, the stock transmission from the manual Dakota will hold up fine. Lots of Jeep guys use the AX-15 - but I see yours is a 2004 - think maybe it had an NV3500 or something by then - generally seen as a weaker transmission than the AX-15. An NV4500 will certainly work, but it's overkill on the 4bt for daily driving, plus there are a couple mods you'd have to make to get it to fit that you don't have to do with the stock transmission. Would it be better? Perhaps, but necessary? I'm not going to do it until my AX-15 with new clutch plates proves I need it.
A couple Dakotas have been done and the info is out there. I have my 4bt at the house but I'm not getting much done on it right now since I'm overseas for awhile... Plus I have a good 150,000 v6 sitting in it right now and I kinda need my truck for work when I'm home. Going to start cleaning it up and painting on it and gathering parts when I get home though - that v6 ain't gonna last forever...
Like I said - check out 4btswaps and they'll steer you right. Hope this helps.
