not to be jumping to conclusions here. but I've been browsing craigslist and found a 98 dakota with 179,xxxkm's on it. it looks just like the one I have now but its red and not black. only problem with it is the transfer case needs attention.. the lady told me it stays is 2wd but when you put it into 4wd it doesnt change... SO they said they had a family friend come by to check it out. All he did was give them a quote and took out the front drive shaft to make it drivable. would this be truck be worth my time for me to fix it? because I cant be left stranded with no car. and I loved my truck. so I would just use it for parts. figures only problem is that my current one is a 2wd and this one is a 4wd.

I feel like that one is fine but just the linkage is broken...its hard to break a manual transfer case...I've tried

Was he even a mechanic is the question that comes to my mind haha. I mean it's hard to diagnose the problem but linkages break way more often than a transfer case going bad.

found a 01 transfer case off of a 3.9 v6. would that work in the 98 5.9 or 5.2?
