4 cyl Dakota?
ORIGINAL: 95dak318
I searched auto trader and
2.5L four banger in an 2wd x cab dak gets 21mpg Hwy / 16mpg city --120hp
3.9L V-6 in an 2wd x cab gets 18 mpg hwy / 15 mpg city --175hp
my 5.2L v-8 4x4 x cab (actual, calculated by me) 19 hwy / 14 city AVG fill up 16 mpg --220hp
I don't know much about 4 banger dakotas, but I do know that the dakota is a moderately heavy truck, and the v-6 is a pretty good match up, good power and good mileage. I rode in a few v-6 dakotas and they run good, even with a load in the bed, but up hill with a load they do seem to dog out abit.
but since you wont be haulling much it should not be too bad, but i bet it will often dog out when you are going up hills, or if you ever fill the bed up.

the most ive gotten out of a tank was 498 and that was all highway (mostly downhill driving)

i own a 4cyl dakota with a 5 speed nv1500, all facory except for a custom intake. ive hit speeds up to 130mph, and have towed 2000 pound car trailers. the 2.5L is a very durable motor, God knows ive been hard on mine, and with my intake i get 26+ mpg if i keep my foot off of it. overall i like mine over the v6 and v8 models. ive only noticed a power lack when i hit 4th gear and drop from 5000 to 3000 rpm, and it can take some abuse.recommend this over other trucks.

governer is at 110. you'd blow past redline and destroy your tranny at that speed, if you could handle the truck in the first place, the car trailer maybe, you'd have to drive a gear low, 26+ MPG cannot be done without serious mods.
i've got the 4, intake and exaust for high volume
its nice when just cruising the streets, can handle 1 ton loads very well. slow though, unless you really run it high in the rpms, i'm at 20 mpg, when i got the truck it was closer to 15. i don't think i'll be getting much more.
i highly doubt it has 120 HP. maybe off the flywheel running 93 and an octane booster.
i'm hoping to get another 4cyl engine and build it to twin turbo
it is the same engine used in jeep wranglers for many years, i know, i had a 91 wrangler before this truck
the governor may be at 110 and the truck thinks im running that but with the oversize tires i had on it, i was actually clocking 120 to 130 at 4000rpm in 5th gear. ive checked my mileage, miles on tank/gallons to fill full= mpg. and it runs 26 on the highway, 24 in the hills, and about 20 city if im nice to it. maybe you could check out my topic batman, 4 cylinder performance, just added today, im tryin to get some more info on the dodge/jeep cast iron 2.5L.
i have a 4.7 5 speed and have gotten it up to about 115 (still with room to go) and the most i have gotten out of it is 17.7 mpg (mostly highway 85mph hills at 6000 feet elevation). the 4 cyl. dakota was only availible with the 5 speed and i thought you could only get them in a regular cab (must be wrong) but if you live at sea level with few hills and towing needs than you should be good with getting a 4 cyl. truck
well what i have noticed about our top speed limiters is that there are 2 different mph limits and sometimes they are off a few miles per. just because of tire size and rear gear. but any way if you have an aluminim drive shaft your top speed should be 95-97 mph, and if you have a steel drive shaft your top speed should be 115-117mph. check it out
The turbo will match up only if they are the K-car based 2.2-2.5l(OHC)> From 96to2002 the Dakota used the AMC based l-4, (OHV)which is based of the 258 straight six, a totally different animal than the Chrysler engine.
I current have a '96, and it is considerably more powerful than than my earlier OHC Chrysler motor. Except on steep hills, it will easily tow me and my wife, a 14ft Alumicraft boat and gear to 70+mph and still gets 25mpg.
I think if you want a 4 cylider Dakota, IMHO look for the AMC based OHV 4.
