Clock spring ?'s
2001 Dakota Quad 2WD 3.9 V6
Anyone else have a problem with this with less than 100,000 miles? and did it cost more than $200.00 at the dealer to fix? Please note I am paying Hawaii prices and everything rusts and and rots here really fast.
Thanks

I did it myself on my '01 about a year or so ago. I found the part with a google search IIRC. It's not that difficult to do. Just remember to disconnect the battery for at least 15 minutes prior to allow the airbag capacitors to bleed out their voltages. I don't recall the actual price I paid for the part but I think it was in the $35-40 range.
On another note, I'm having a problem with it again and it's coincidentally right after having my dash removed for heater core work. When I got the truck back the chime started binging at random times whenever the wheel was rotated. I post somewhere about the problem and someone said they had the same thing happen after they dropped the steering column. They found the wires had been pulled out. I just opened mine up but didn't find anything amiss. Do the clock springs fail prematurely, like after 12-18 months??

Hmmm, I've seen that if not installed EXACTLY PERFECT, it will fail...that's odd though, and there WAS a recallfor them but the damn dealer says it's only for 00 models but yet there recall was made in 01...
Recently there have been a whole bunch of "selective" coverages for misc parts appearing on different vehicles. Not officially recalls, but they are at least making an effort instead of ignoring issues like the "OLD" Chrysler used to do. Problem is that customers aren't aware of this and I am not sure iof there are mailings like they do in case of a recall. AT least none that I am aware of. PM me your VIN # KOTA>>>

I had my vin checked already and it's only showing the shift lever, which don't bother me, an they want $200 to fix the clockspring.

I did some further poking around on my truck and found that one of the pins on the left plug (the white one??) was bent out of position so I straightened it out and put everything back to gether. Now, instead of intermittent chiming the light stays on continuously. Perhaps the unit was damaged by the mechanic when he removed the dash and my "fixing" it was no help whatsoever. I guess I'll have to scrounge up another one and try it. Now if I could only remember where I bought the last one from!
I also started looking for them and found that anything listed is in the $175-200 range and nobody seems to have stock on them anyway! And since the system must be operational to pass inspection I guess I'll have to search high and low ASAP.
