Default new hood and ram air intake question

ok i have a 2001 dakota 4.7 L and i was thinking about getting this hood http://www.keystonerestyling.com/cgi...ogno=GHD-20147
with this ram air kit the company sell http://www.keystonerestyling.com/cgi...logno=GH-DBX47 . But my father in law told me to ask around before getting the ram air kit cause he heard that some kits if not made for the vehicle can cause problems for the motor. so i was just wondering if anyone has used this setup and if so how was it? also did the engine work well wit the air kit?

i wouldn't see a problem with that induction, its not as "neat" looking as my k&n intake cause that one uses the factory tubing and everything

This is purely speculation, but I would assume the problem your dad mentioned is most hoods would make operating in ,too, cold a condition, meaning the engine temp never is able too reach normal operating temperature, there by accumilating carbon and sludge build up. Just a hunch. I'm not anti hood intake by no means. just saying.

i dont think there is any way a hood scoop or airram hood would significantly lower engine temp. intake temp yes but not the actual engine.

well Cowl hoods do exactly that; creates an escape route for air that is engouged in the engine compoartment, by filtering the air out the rear by the windshield. tell me Why is there insulation on most hoods from the factory? Too keep warm air in or cold air out?

and to keep the hood from getting hot as hell. ever see a rat rod? hmmm no hood or anything on thoes.

i would be more concerned with [putting in a cooler tstat than a hood.

I'd agree with that. Now the fiber glass hood lowers weight, wouldn't that need sufficient insulation as well?

well the insulation i can put it on the new hood where ever it does not get in the way to keep the insulation if u think it will make the big of a difference.

As long as you can keep it tucked and not droopy, It couldn't hurt. If you think it'll not stay put however I would do without. Engine fire's suck , period. lol.
