1997 dakota with 3.9L automatic 4x4 will not go in to first gear starts driving in second weather it in drive on if pull shifter into first will still only go into second i just bought the truck and know no history my uncle has a trans from a 1998 ram 5.2l 4x4 will it work in my dakota thanks for any help

 

That is the symptoms of a bad solenoid.

 

will that other trans work if i decide to just swap them

 

Since you have not given the model of the tranny I wouldnt not be able to say yes or no.
