Default Lower Ball Joints

Had the upper ball joints replaced on 2000 4wd Dakota. FDealer wants to do lowers also. Says they are breaking down. I need to pay. Anhyone else come across this as part of recall. Seems they should be closely related. But I guess only th uppers r part of the recall.

Just wonder what it cost to do that lower job. Dealer says 580 using Mopar parts

I'm pretty sure that the Duralast ball joints that AutoZone sells are greasable. mf27us, if it helps any I had to pay $1095 to have all 4 ball joints, passenger side tie rod, and driver side bearing all done at the same time. I went with a local garage though. If they replaced your uppers, and the vehicle is still tore apart at the shop there is no reason it should be much more labor to put in the lowers. If they do still have your vehicle apart, it sounds like they're trying to get you for labor for the entire job. The parts will only be around $80-$100 for lowers.

I attempted to get an alignment and mechanic said all four were bad and quoted me 600 duckies for parts and labor. So instead i bought all four from napa for about 70 bucks and did the deed myself. unfortunately they are riveted in and the rivets expanded once pressed in. So i grinded the heads off and drilled them all out. entire project took close to 12 hours, but saving 530 dollars was well worth the labor. plus i learned a lot about my truck by workin with it.
