Default Changing head gasket

Hey all, it's cheesehead with the 02 Dakota 3.9 that wouldn't start and overheated.....
The mechanic said I my head gasket is leaking. He couldn't get the truck started but said he saw antifreeze in the cylinder. I went to pick it up and it started 1st try. I drove it for about 10 miles and it never overheated.
How hard is it to change the head gasket and how long will it take? Do I have to remove all of the valves? Is that hard to do? There is a machine shop right around the corner that can smooth my cylinder heads. I have a Haynes manual that I have been using. I already removed my Intake manifold and replaced the front and rear gaskets and the plennum pan gasket. Will I have to do that again?
Thanks for any help.
I have also priced used engines for $500-600 if I need to go that route. What is a good price quote for an engine swap? Thanks again.
