Question Changing trans filter is it a pain to do?

this is the last "tune up" item i have to do. this looks pretty simple

take off all nuts on trans pan
remove trans pan
remove old gasket
remove old filter
put new filter on
put new gasket on
put pan back up
put nuts back on pan

pretty much the deal?

when you remove the pan take the bolts out so that one corner will hang down to let it drain. If you try to remove it all at once your just gunna make a mess.

You might also consider ajusting the bands while you have it open. The reverse band ajuster is only accesable with the pan removed. Also make sure all the old gasket is removed you don't want any leaks and have to do it all over again.

If the filter has been changed there will already be an adapter in the tranny where the filter neck inserts. If not you will have to install the one they give you with filter. My daughters '05 also has a spin on filter in the tranny when you drop the pan. Don't know if yours does. My '97 only has the flat filter in it. There are usually a couple of bolts that are a pain to get out and in. Mine has star head screws holding the filter in the tranny. Make sure to clean the pan and magnet thoroughly and torque the bolts when replacing them. I have a large rectangular plastic pan about 5 inches deep to set under the tranny when I do mine. I also put an old vinyl table cloth on the floor to help with drips.

I use a old metal fridge pan works awesome then I also use newpig absorbent mats which you can spill a lot on it and it wont soak threw. I get them for free from work I think they are 15x20.
