I'd worry more about the hot air from the engine bay getting sucked into the filter.

well when hes driving the air going past the grill will be cool. but that black intake tube will just make it worse. they get hot after a long drive.

The air coming through the stock box would have been colder than this setup.

I have a discontinued Intense Performance CAI filter with Ceramic coated tube and air filter canister on my Ram, open element with hood scoop on my Dakota, with a "carb" pan to isolate the engine bay heat from the intake air...Cold air is good air, especially if it's a lot of cold air.

Filter I have on the Ram: http://www.dakota-durango.com/parts/...p_stage3_7.jpg

It looks short but its really not. The filter is actually right in front of that rubber flap that goes in between the rad and the headlight so if I wanted I could pull that flap down and get lots of cold air and plus right now its 20 out so hot air isnt a issue at the moment.

He's got a good point. I love how these are advertised as CAI's. There is nothing cold air about this. And like he said, the stock air box would be getting much cooler air than this thing.

I figured the thing is 30 bucks. I also figured on not cold air. My trade is Hvac and building a metal box to enclose the filter and feeding ram air is part of my or. plan.
