Default Transfer case popping and grinding in reverse

The other day I opened my mouth and told someone I haven't really had any problems with my truck and now I have a problem developing. When my truck is in 4HI and I try reverse it make a awful popping noise and kinda a grinding sound. I guess its the transfer case. That's where it sounds like it coming from. It only does it in 4HI. Not 2WD or 4LO. And only in reverse. And my truck has always had a clunking noise when you push or release the clutch real fast. I don't know if it is related or not. I kinda think that the clunking is caused by a loose fitting chain. Anyone got any ideas?

It Is definatly possible that it is the chain , i had a stretched chain in my durango and it would ONLY jump the sprockets ( make that popping sound ) in 4 wheel high , very little in 4 Low , Never in 2Wh . I would definatly get it checked out before the chain comes completely off and wrecks havoc on gears inside . Chains will stretch after time and need to be replaced , Not recommended to replaced with a used chain
