The IAC is on the throttle body in the back. If you pop off the little round hat thing its easy to get to. It probably hasn't had time to throw a code yet depending on how many drive cycles it has been through.

Okay, so I don't have to remove the actual throttle body to clean and/or replace the IAC? Although I might just do it anyway to clean it, but not for a few months unless I have to, because it's like 20 outside. So can I just leave the throttle body on to replace it?

It's weird though, because I let it sit for about 3 hours, walked out turned the key and it fired right up no problem, rpms were normal... We'll see what it does tomorrow. I'll definately take a look at the IAC anyways.

I had exactly the same thing going on on my 94 5.2. After so much frustration it hit me could it be loosing prime or not enough prime. I tried this and it worked. Turn key on wait a few seconds, turn off, then back on. I do this three times on all starts that the truck has been off for over 15-20 min. Screwy idle went away, not starting went away, truck runs great as long as I do it. I know this is not Kosher but till whatever it is manifests itself into a traceable situation, its better than the alternative of crappy running. Hey works for me!

Alright, thanks I'm gonna try it next time, even though I'm pretty sure it's one of the things listed above. I will eventually try and really fix it when it gets a little warmer at least but hey if this works cool... working on a truck in the snow and cold isn't as fun as it sounds

I had this same problem on my truck I had 3 different codes, asd relay short, map sensor short and tps short. I was so pissed next day turned the key in my truck and fired right was fine. Worked fine for a couple months then one day did it again wouldnt idle and had to hold the gas then it was fine again I replaced the batt terminals and it hasnt done it since.

Yeah as long as I can get it going I won't be too mad. this is only like the 3rd problem since I got it in august. Not bad for just turning 126,000 miles old. And thats how it always works out when you get the most pissed everything works out fine hahaha.
