Red face beating on what the big nut?

dodgeramguy85

Hardest part of mine was beating it off. Spent like 30min doing that the whole job only took about 1-1hr and 20 min. I got mine off ebay 8k and still going strong plus I saved about 130.00

What are you beating off the nut or the Hub its hard to get off?

I suspect I have one going bad.

once you get the bolts off of the hub assem, sometimes the hub is stuck to the spindle. so you need to wack it to get it off.(need to watch how i phrase things, that could have been nasty). one of mine took 20min of beating and the other one pretty much fell off.

Talking so they can be

So they can get stuck on the shaft and need some persuasion with a hammer to remove them ok.

Dont most hub assemblies come with the wheel studs on them?

Or the ebay ones dont have wheel studs?

Both of mine just slid right off, no pullers or wacking needed. My truck is a 2 wheel drive though, and has never been off road, never been in mud, salt or snow. I bought National brand hubs from Advance, used an online discount code, paid online and did two separate transactions and saved $80.00 on the pair. I picked them up in the Advance store near my house. They came with the wheel studs already installed. I replaced both front hubs back around March, no problems at all with them so far. Each hub also came with a new axle nut, which saved me a trip to Napa or the hardware store.

I found out it is a lot easier to break the hub nut loose with both front wheels on the ground. Pop out the center caps, put the axle nut socket on a 1/2" breaker bar, put the socket on the nut and stand on the breaker bar handle, bounce up and down on it a time or two and the nut will break loose pretty easy. I bought my axle nut socket at Northern Tool. I think it is a 35 mm. Advance had the socket too, I just wanted to see if Harbor Freight had one cheaper. They didn't have one at all unless you buy a whole set of axle nut sockets so I just bought the one I needed at Northern. It was only $1.00 more than Advance anyway.
