have a 2000 Dakota sport with a 5.9l. Flushed the heater core both ways till clear. New T-Stat (195deg) antifreeze is good. Im getting very little heat. I turn the *** from cold to hot and it does switch from cold to hot. What can fix this. Any help? Thanks in advance.

Is the heat hot but just not blowing out much hot air from the floor vents? Is the air flow weak no matter what setting the selector is on for vent-defrost-etc? Does the fan only work on high and/or the next lowest speed? If so, the blower motor resistor is probably bad. It's a common problem on Dakota's and the part is less than $20.00 at the Dodge dealer. The bad part about it is (I think) on the 2000 models you have to pull the dash and remove the HVAC housing to get to the resistor. I think I have seen pics online of a 2000 or 1999 Dakota HVAC housing and unless it was upside down or something it looked to me like the resistor and the fan itself faced the firewall. On 2001's and up the fan and resistor are mounted in the bottom of the HVAC housing under the passenger's side of the dash and it's much easier to get to the parts. I do know the blend doors and vent-heat-defroster selectors on a 2000 are mechanically actuated. You might pull out the glove box and radio and whatever other dash panels and parts are easily removed and check the operation of the HVAC control cables and see if you can move the door lever by hand, listen for it moving inside the HVAC box, or there might be an obvious problem like a broken cable end or blend door armature end.

Others here with 2000 and older models may be able to tell you more about it.

Jimmy
