Default Possible tail gate problem

Haven't had a chance to check it yet, but yesterday it was very cold and I had to run my truck through a car wash to get some of the salt off of it. My tail gate mechanism may have frozen causing it not to want to latch. It tried slamming it closed several times and it finally held even though it didn't seem to be holding very tight. Thoughts on what to check, I have never had a tail gate apart, but could a rod or something be bent or have broke? An adjustment of some kind?

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.

Check your latches on the side of the gate to make sure that one didnt some how become in the locked position or some thing weird. I know mine sometime does this and it turns out that the one latch gets relocked. Most of the time if its a bent rod when you try to open it nothing will happen or you might have to pull on it as you lift the handle.

I did check the latches quickly, it was about zero outside. I didn't see anything weird about them. Thanks for the response, I will look more in a couple of days when I have time. If you think of anything else let me know.

Thanks again.
