Default what year motors will interchange

i blew the v6 in my 98 and i can get a 318 for cheap but will a 96 motor work in a 98? and will the transmission and flywheel bolt up cause i have a 5 speed and the motors out of an automatic

as far as i know there isn't going to be a problem with bolting up the 5 speed even though the motor is out of an auto. i think that the engine itself will fit but i would double check to make sure that the motor mounts will bolt. you might have to put in new mounts too. make sure that you get all of the engine components (i.e. wiring harness, computer, vaccuum lines and fuel lines. you might want to double check and make sure that you don't need to change out the fuel pump to support a higher rate of fuel flow for the v8.)

can i use the v6 flywheel and clutch assembly for the 5.2 and if anyone can help with advice as to what i can keep off the v6 and what i have to replace for the v8 cause im trying to do this as cheap as possible im on a tight budget im getting the motor off of an old family friend for 275 bucks the motors got less than 100000 miles on it and i know it runs good but i cant put the v8 in till i get it in a couple days so i wanna find out what i will need so i dont have any set backs cause i need my truck back asap im pullin the v6 in the mornin and checking out the damage ive had the truck for a year and ill be honest i beat the hell out of that motor im surprised it went cause of a head gasket and not something else but if anyone knows any info on this id appreciate the help
