Default Please tell me how to remove the clips on the fuel injector wires.

I have to remove the valve covers today but i noticed there are little clips holding the wiring harness to the valve cover. Any help would be nice. This is on a 2k dakota 3.9.

there should be a red tab you slide. but they break most of the time so just pull the fuel rail off and disconnect the injectors by removing the metal tab on them if thta makes sense. you cant remove the VC without removing the injectors?

Default Thanks.

Did the gasket on driver side.. hard to do. But now i'm just worried it will leak again lol since this was my first time. I also snapped the dam hose coming from firewall for the a/c. I have no clue how to replace that hose but it can wait till i see if i'm still leaking oil.

No, sense, but that's not your fault it's these stupid connectors that make no sense. I slid the red thing back yes one broke but one is not broken but those f****** things still won't come off. What happens after we slide the red thing? I've been pulling on it but nothing happens

The red slide is a locking device, and it's there to make sure the injector wire won't come loose. When you slide it out, you have unlocked the clip holding the injector wire in place. Squeeze down with your finger in front of the clip and your thumb underneath, and it will slide off. If it's been on there a while it'll be stuck and may need a little wiggling and pulling. This may not be your exact plug, but it will give you an idea of what you are dealing with there. Pretty much all modern fuel injection systems use a similar squeeze/lock design.

Thank you Vimes! Very helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to help me through this annoying process. Your karma points have increased exponentially.

Just had to make an account to thank you.

Thank you!

I have a 17 v6 1500 and these connectors were pissing me off. I couldn't see a tab to depress, under the red pull out tab thing. Was using gloves too, so I couldn't feel it. As sure as a frog's b-hole is watertight, it was there!

Thanks again!
