Default Oil Pressure

Today i first noticed really, I seen the light once before.. but i stopped at a gas station.. and when i cranked back up.. all lights went off but 'check gauges' then i noticed oil gauge at 0 for a few seconds.. then moved up to right above 20... light goes off..

No matter how much gas or get on it.. does not move..

Is this the oil pump or maybee something stopped up? Just changed oil and filter 150miles ago.. or so..

Still have the shutter.. Thoughts?

Could be and hopefully is just the guage since its electrical, what id do is go buy the cheap sunpro triple guage set from autozone or advane, i believe its around 30 bucks and hook up the oil pressure guage cause its mechanical, you could just leave it sittin in the engine bay at idle and see where its at in comparison to the stock one, theyre pretty easy to hook up to so it shouldnt take much time to do. Thats just what id do someone else might have a better idea

This morning working normally.. fired the truck up.. shot up to right above 20 and then moved above 40 while cold/idle..

Once the truck warmed up.. sat at normal idle between 20/40... highway speeds right above 40... slow down.. pressure drops a little...

give it gas oil pressure increases slightly..

I'll have to keep an eye on this..

if oil pressure does not move under throttle then you know you have big problems. thats what happened to me and thats why i need a new motor. our oil pumps are rpm dependent.

Sounds like the sending unit is bad or the connector harness on the sending unit is dirty or not making good contact to the sending unit. Maybe unplug the connector and clean it and the connector on the sending unit too. Also, the suggestion of putting in a mechanical gauge is the best way to tell if the sending unit is bad. You can buy an oil pressure mechanical gauge and test kit cheap at Harbor Freight:

http://www.harborfreight.com/engine-...ter-92687.html

Or this one if you need the extra tees and adapters:

The dash gauges work but are not all that reliable or accurate. The mechanical gauge shoud tell you what your actual oil pressure. The oil pump is mechanically driven and based on engine RPM, so it's normal for it to fluctuate with engine speed.

Yeah thats what i figured.. when is seen it just sitting at above 20 not moving like normal.. it was cause for due alarm..

How strange it does it then you turn it off and let it sit for a few moments it acts fine.. I wonder if i need to re-do my oil change again... I wonder if something dislodged in the upper engine and found its way to the pan sucking through the pump clogging it?
I might run some mystery oil through.. and then change..

Thoughts/Opinions?

OK guys.. so i've been watching this..

When the check gauges light comes on.. oil pressure gauge is 0 I would say 3-4 seconds it moves up to a smidge above 20... light goes off..

If i get out on the road and get on it.. it moves up towards 40 and normal speeds gets back down around 20 or so.. so it seems 'its working'

While other 'normal' times.. it goes to about 40 when first cranking untill the engine warms up..

So there is something def. up here.. should I just replace the oil pump and sending unit or you think i should run some mystery oil through the engine first to clean up the insides change oil and then if it does it still after the treatment and oil change do it again?

Note: that I did not notice this till after I changed my oil.. oil change only currently has i would say 800 miles on it.. changed in Feb.
