Default Drivers side front axle seal

Hey guys how hard is it to change the drivers side front axle seal. Looks like once the caliper, tire and the bolts holding the CV it should just pop out with a little prying.

Can you just pry out the seal and hammer in a new one? Looks like maybe an hours work.

Or am I missing anything.

ok what do you mean by axle seal? the half shaft its self or the 3rd member that the axle bolts to. eithe way your gonna have to pull the tire then the caliper then you have to take the large nut off the axle. take the top ball joint off the spindle lower the spindle down and then you can pull the axle out of the spindle. i replaced my passenger side half shaf a few weeks ago and tryed to just unbolt it and pull it out with out taken the top a arm lose and there was no way the half shaft would come out untill i took the top ball joint out the spindle. hope this helps

step one, look at manuals. (see sticky, someone kindly posted the pdfs on google docs)
step two, take picture.
step three, replace part

A little more seriously, a picture or better descrip will do much better. Depends if it is the seal for the output off your front diff, a CV joint piece(Id imagine not being that they just have the 2 boots), or a seal around the wheel bearing. Regardless, it sounds like youll have to take some susp. apart, upper or lower ball joint, and remove half-shaft.

I have to do this on my truck too sometime. Yeah the wheel, caliper, upper b-joint, big bolt on end of axle has to come off. Then you'll have to whack the axle shaft off the differential. Then I think you can easily pull out the old seal and pound in the new. The right passenger side I think you may have to remove the shock too if you need that side.
