Post The 1000th SuperChips Q/A Thread... HELP

Yeah, I know... Not another one! But, darn-it! I have questions that I haven't found the answers to yet. I feel like a lost child in some of these discussions because I seem to have misplaced my advance ASE certifications. Where's the version for the Dummies like me to get the watered down - "Drugs are bad. Don't do drugs." version?

Seriously, I have read plenty on how to modify the shift ratios and how the Superchips helps to change how the engine uses the RPMs, but I have never noticed any discussion on a manual trans. I would think that since I have a 5sp stick, those are not affected by the computer since I control when it shifts. Am I mistaken?

My next question relates to the Superchip device itself. I understand from a thread that after I spend over $300 on the device it still needs to be "unlocked" for the VIN of my truck in order for it to work... and that cost more money and needs to be ordered/downloaded! Is that correct? Kinda like buying the computer and the software to run it is extra.

As with every DAK/RAM owner that I have read on this site, I want mostly the same things out of my truck. I want more power and fuel efficiency... moreso the latter than the 1st. $85 fill ups are painful. I tend to drive conservatively but want to have fun if I ever want to play.

I truly wish I had a car-guy buddy to give me the short version. But, since I don't, I joined this Forum to try to broaden my knowledge base. The majority of guys (and gals) here are very intelligent with volumes of knowledge that I don't have (yet). Please send me a private message or just post on this thread if you can help enlighten me on the whole SuperChips thing.

In case you need to know to give me solid (yet short answers, here's my truck specs: 2000 Dak Quad / 4.7L / 2WD / 5sp Manual

if u buy the tuner new which is 300+ u wont have to pay anything else unless u want to get the new updated tunes from superchips, the new ones are already vin unlocked, the only time u have to send it in and have it unlocked is if it is a used model and hasn't been cleared off the orig vehicle as they can only tune one car at a time

Ok. Thanks.

The next thing i need to know is if it's user friendly enough for an amateur like me to plug-n-play to better fuel efficiency. Have you used it w/ your 2002? If so, DETAILS PLEASE!! If not, do you have any plans to?
