99' dakota shifting problem?
hey i got a 99' 318 5.2 V8 mag. wensday morning i was heading to school after the truck had been sitting over night. (the night before there was no problem.) shifting from 1st to 2nd it went up to 3,500 rmp to shift, then 2nd to 3rd it did the same thing, or if you let off the gas then get back on it, it will shift fine.
also when doing about 45mph then put it to the floor it goes up untill 3,500/4,000 then its like it goes into neutraul and rpm's red line.
i called the local tranny place and they said 1,500 for a rebuild, so im hoping it's just something that less than that.
ill try to take a video of it happening and post it soon.

I did not know this about my dodge. The transmission fluid MUST be checked in neutral.
1st. apply parking barke
2nd. with truck running, slowly shift through all the grears then return to neutral
3rd. with truck running check tranny fluid.
I had been checking fuild in park and it sticks a quart higher than it should.
You can verify this be reading the instructions on the dipstick.
Hope it is just low on fluid

What it needed was the 6000 mi. service.
Change trans filter and adjust the bands.
Your trands is on the way out. It might shift ok when hot, but look to have the shifting problem when it's cold. And it will get worse.
When the trans goes, there is not much you can do to make it better by pouring stuff in, with the exception of Lucas Transmission StopSlip. If it isn't too bad, the Lucas might help.
