Default Narrowed it down to three

Hey folks, I posted on here about a month ago asking about dakotas. Thanks for the info and tips, I have narrowed it down to three trucks and am curious what you guys think. One truck is a 99 club cab with a 5.2 and a 5 speed manual. Another is an 01 quad cab with a 4.7 and an auto tranny. Both trucks are 2wd, have roughly the same mileage (about 5k) and are within a grand of eachother. My question is how would the fuel economy and hp compare between these two. My third option which I'm going to look at today is an 03 v6 single cab with a 5 speed manual and 4x4. While I'd rather have the v8, the v6 has about 20k miles less than either of the v8's so its a contender. How much slower is the v6 and what is the fuel economy like? I know it gets a mile or two better than the v8 but is the lack of power really worth it?

hey Rob,
Guess it depends on how you'll use the truck - I have the 4x4 with a 3.9 from '99 and it's been a good one. Still a reliable motor at 154,000, though I'm prepping it for a Cummins swap right now. Not a racing machine, obviously, but I don't race it... Gets 18-20 mpg. Towed a jetski home from TX with a motorcycle in the bed - that and a utility trailer are all it's towed. Has a big bed for firewood or camping equipment, a comfortable ride, and the best styling of any truck out there, in my opinion.

I would take the 5.2 5-speed.

I prefer the 4.7 to the 5.2 but I prefer a manual over an auto WAY more. 5.2 5 speed. You will want the v8, trust me, I've owned both. Unless you really need the quad cab which it doesn't sound like you do since you're looking at a RC.
