My son's 2003 with a 4.7 died on him going down the road. I went to look at it and it starts up, but has a noise which sounds like in the top end and it idles low and rough and dies. It has 171,000 miles on it. I haven't check for codes yet. Anybody have any ideas that I can try.

 

check the codes as it only takes a few seconds to do. other wise we are just shooting in the dark. but common problems will be IAC, TPS, or fuel pump.
